Factoring by Nonsubgroup Factors

Abstract.

For each finite abelian group we determine the numbers $q_1,\ldots,q_n$
such that if the group is a direct product of subsets of cardinalities
$q_1,\ldots,q_n$ and each subset contains the identity element of the group,
then at least one of the subsets is in fact a subgroup of the group.
