Special Volume on Matrix Analysis and Applications

Dedicated to Gérard Meurant

This volume of Electronic Transactions on Numerical Analysis contains selected papers by participants of the conference ``Matrix Analysis and Applications'' held at the Centre International de Recontres Mathématiques in Luminy, France, on October 15-19, 2007. The conference honored the 60th birthday of Gérard Meurant for his many contributions to numerical linear algebra, and in particular to iterative methods and the use of Gauss-type quadrature rules to bound functionals. Gérard Meurant is the author of numerous papers and of two influential books on iterative methods. The conference was organized by C. Brezinski, K. Jbilou, M. Redivo Zaglia, and A. Salam, with the aim of bringing together researchers working in matrix analysis, numerical linear algebra, and applications. It was attended by 50 researchers from academia and research laboratories. The main topics of the conference were numerical linear algebra, structured matrix problems, approximation of matrix functions, iterative methods for linear systems of equations, and eigenvalue problems.
